We are shocked both at the continuing failure of all the relevant authorities in Britain to deal effectively with crimes carried out by the US government under the euphemism "extraordinary rendition" and at revelations - confirmed in a report adopted by the European Parliament on 15 February - that the actions of the British Government have directly led to the torture of British residents.
We deplore Britain's refusal to sign the UN Convention on banning disappearances and secret detention, signed by 57 other countries on 6 February.
We also deplore the refusal of Scottish police forces and the Scottish Executive to take any action on these matters. According to a CIA pilot - quoted by investigative journalist Stephen Grey in his book Ghost Plane- Prestwick airport is "an 'ask no questions' type of a place." We think this a national disgrace.
We demand that the Scottish Parliament acts urgently to make Scotland a place where questions are asked when human rights are under threat.
