Female energy has been the theme, at the vets yesterday Del walked out as an injection was about to be given to Squidge - she asked me if he didn't like to watch I nodded yes, she told me when her children were little her husband {a vet} couldn't be around when they needed medical attention, she lifted her eyes heaven wards and muttered "hombres!!" and together we laughed in mutual understanding- why is this so significant, it was all in Spanish and the first time i have really laughed and shared a "common" moment with a Spanish lady , then today another encounter with a Spanish lady as I tell her mi hombre es malo - dente inflamado, so with pera and her oido inflamado I have a house full of inflamations mmmmmm, but at the supermarket Ani's sister and I agree that we mujers are muy fuerte -- bloody good job too LOL
In line with the female stuff I picked up a book at someone's house last week that looked interesting The Female Nomad, I started reading at a couple of evenings ago, it is, so far an inspiring and uplifting read - a nice change from all the male oriented traveling books {Rita Golden Gelman} - reading it this morning I come across SERVAS.
Servas Philosophy
Servas is an international, non-governmental, interracial peace association run in over 100 countries by volunteers. Founded in 1949 by Bob Luitweiler as a peace movement, Servas International is a non-profit organisation working to build understanding, tolerance and world peace.
It operates through a network of Servas hosts around the world who are interested in opening their doors to travellers, and, "on the other side of the coin", many open-minded travellers who want to get to know the heart of the countries they visit.
SERVAS INTERNATIONAL has consultative status as a non-governmental organisation with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, currently with representation at many of the UN's hubs of activity.
There are over 13,000 Servas "open doors" scattered throughout almost every country in the world.
