Health journalist John Naish asks if we are turning normal human behaviour and normal stages in human development into medical conditions. It is estimated that 10 per cent of British people take anti-depressants and 10 per cent of American children take Ritalin to control their behaviour. It seems that a new mental illness is invented every week, covering every potential quirk in the human condition, such as Restless Leg Syndrome, Social Anxiety Disorder, Female Sexual Dysfunction and Celebrity Worship Syndrome.
Have just read a couple of good books - the 5 people you meet in heaven Mitch Albom, gonna have to read this one again, short sweet and thoughtful and the witch of portobello, by one of my favourite authors, Paulo Coelho, as always thought provoking and very readable......."love fills everything. It cannot be desired because it is an end in itself. It cannot betray because it has nothing to do with possession. It cannot be held prisoner because it is a river and will overflow it's banks. Anyone who tries to imprison love will cut off the spring that feeds it, and the trapped water will grow stagnant and rank."
Gotta go, early one at the gym and then to the market for provisions, Julio and Amanda will be about sometime this morning. Will it be terrace day, yesterday was wonderful, this morning the wind chill is back, but it was early when I went out with the dogs, Barbara is lodging over night as L & K went over to Coin.
